You know, I WAS going to call this blog The Unbearable Whiteness Of Being, but I didn't want the Aryan types to get all excited. I'd have called it that because I love basketball, I like hip-hop, and I'm so frigging WASP that I knew how to spell Episcopalian at an inappropriately-early age. I fear bilingual people, because they are probably making fun of me (much like the Anglophones do, behind my back.)
I always wanted to make a speech like Costner's in BULL DURHAM, and have a woman swoon into my arms...instead, when I say things like that, they tend to swoon into different zip codes. Fortunately, my wife has learned to ignore me.
Don't take that as a slap; it's probably saved our marriage, more times than not. It's important to know when to ignore your loved ones, and when to take their every word as gospel.
"But what about YOU, Guthrie? We want to know about YOU!" you say.
Of course you do! I'm goddamned fascinating!
I'm tall, dark, handsome, charismatic, and thoroughly dangerous (albeit in a fried food/cigarettes/heroin/black market organ transplants kind of way, not a kick-your-ass-at-everything-but-Monopoly kind of way.)
I love my wife, my kids, and my friends.
I believe in entropy, mortality, and the growing morass of missed opportunity...but I'm just ignorant enough to bet against the house.
I can be stronger than I am brave, or braver than I am strong, depending on when you catch me. I am almost never wise, but my intentions are among the best.
